Educator Expense Deduction

The Educator Expense Deduction is a tax deduction available to eligible teachers and educators that allows them to deduct certain unreimbursed expenses incurred for classroom supplies and materials from their taxable income.

Eligible educators can deduct up to $250 of qualified expenses, or $500 if both spouses are eligible educators and file jointly. Qualified expenses may include items such as books, supplies, computer equipment, and other materials used in the classroom. This deduction is beneficial for teachers who often spend their own money to enhance their students’ learning experiences.
