IRS Form 2848 (Power of Attorney) is a document that allows a taxpayer to authorize another individual, such as a CPA or tax attorney, to represent them before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This form enables the designated representative to receive and inspect confidential tax information, communicate with the IRS on behalf of the taxpayer, and make decisions related to the taxpayer’s tax matters.

Once completed and signed, the form must be submitted to the IRS, and it remains in effect until the taxpayer revokes it or the IRS receives a notice of death or legal incompetence. This form is commonly used for handling tax returns, audits, and disputes, allowing the authorized representative to act in the taxpayer’s best interest.
